Description

I encountered an error after installing a fresh copy of Debian 6. The error stalled at boot time while looking for a non-existent hard drive, causing seek errors to occur.
I decided to pull the machine and inspect the hardware inside. After looking at the hard drive, I noticed that the drive selector pin was set to the MASTER setting. Just as a test, I moved the setting from MASTER to CABLE SELECT, reinstalled the hard drive and restarted the machine.

This appeared to have fixed problem, so in the future make sure hard drives are set to CABLE SELECT before installing.
