Bug #704

Updated by Daniel Curtis over 8 years ago

I recently updated one of my Windows 7 machines and I noticed that a message to upgrade to Windows 10 had started popping up. I am happy with Windows 7 and do not currently want to switch to Windows 10 (which has already proven buggy, breaks applications, file loss, and infested with spyware).

In addition to the numerous problems with Windows 10, previous versions of Windows will try to sneak the upgrade in as one of the recommended updates. For my use case, this type of behavior is unacceptable; so I have chosen to remove this update from my system.

This is a guide on how I successfully removed the "Upgrade To Windows 10 App".

 # Begin by going to +Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> View Installed Updates+.
 # Locate and uninstall *KB3035583*, when the uninstall finished select *Restart Later*.
 # Next go to +Start+ and search for _*Disk Cleanup*_ .
 # Click on *Clean up system files* after the initial scan, make sure to select the *Temporary files* and *Temporary Internet Files*. installation files*.
 # *Reboot* the machine.
 # When the machine boots up, go to+ Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Update+ and then locate *KB3035583* and right-click on the update and select *Hide update*
