Install Chromium on Debian (PowerPC)
While repurposing an old G5 I had laying around, I decided to put Debian 8 on it. When I went to install Chromium I found that it is not in the package repository.
Luckily the package can still be built from source using apt-get.
- Install git:
apt-get install git
- Make a temporary bin directory:
mkdir ~/bin && cd ~/bin
- Fetch depot_tools:
git clone https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/tools/depot_tools.git
- Add depot_tools to your PATH:
- Create a git directory:
mkdir ~/git && cd ~/git
- Clone the v8ppc code:
git clone https://github.com/ibmruntimes/v8ppc.git
- Build Chromium from source using apt-get:
apt-get build-dep chromium apt-get source chromium
